Surprise Baby Shower

Here are some photos from the baby shower I threw with my mom for my brother and his girlfriend. I absolutely cannot wait to meet this little girl! Everything was a surprise for the guest of honor since this will make her third child she didn't want one but since my mom and I were not around for the first we wanted to do something special for her and my brother. I think everything turned out great and I got so many compliments on the cupcakes.

Gettin' Crafty With It.

Oh so very soon my brother's family will be welcoming a new baby girl into the world. Next weekend my mom and I will be throwing her a surprise baby shower and I decided that I wanted to make her a little something special. I have ventured in making onesies before with good and bad luck. I found some super cute ribbon a few weeks ago at Big Lots and decided that I would play around with making hair bows too. These are what I came up with. Everything was super easy. I used Velcro for the backs of the hair bows (hoping that baby has lots of hair!). The tie-dye ribbon I attached to the onesie with fabric glue and washed it after 24 hours to make sure the ribbon stayed on. The bows for both onesie's I hand sewed and also washed to make sure they stayed put! I had so much fun making the bows and even my husband commented on how nice the tie-dye one looked!

Booknerd survey.

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack:

Not usually, I do however read on my lunch break while eating sometimes. It's quite hard to eat yogurt while eating though.

What is your favorite drink while reading?
Whatever I have at the time.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Gah! NO I could not mark in my books!

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
I have some pretty cute bookmarks Kayla made me for Christmas, or I use whatever I have laying around. NEVER dog ear, I get so mad when I get a library book and someone has bent all the pages!!!

Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
Both, I usually go through phases of each though.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
I would rather read to the end of a chapter but when reading at work I have to get up and down a lot, and sometimes have to read a part over if I didn't get to the end.

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
No, I'll stop to calm down or yell at it!

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
No, I don't think I've done that, I may have looked it up later.

What are you currently reading?
Dexter by Design by Jeff Lindsay

What is the last book you bought?
Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay

Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
At times I read more than one but I'd prefer to just do one at a time

Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
My lunch break, it's super quiet. Also sometimes I'll read while the kids are watching tv.

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
I like both, If I start a series then I'm obsessed with reading them all in order and one right after the other.

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
The Southern Vampire series, or The Sookie Stackhouse books, by Charlaine Harris. I also am loving the Dexter books right now! Go Read them!!!

How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author's last name, etc.)
If I had the room I would do it by author, and chronological order, alas, all we have is one bookshelf that will one day die of exhaustion. :(

Mickey Mouse Cake.

Whoa, has it been a while! Mr Maxie had a birthday a few weekends ago and I made his super cute cake. Well, cute except for the giant grease/dye stain on the cake board I didn't cover. I was pretty happy with the results, especially since I had a few meltdowns during making it. Maxie seemed pretty happy too!
